Identifying the growing needs of customer demand for high speed data services, BSNL or Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited has recently projected its strategy for introducing 4G services in 14 telecom circles located across India. BSNL 4G data recharge services are expected to launch along with the relevant packs anytime during the next financial year (2017-18). With an entirely customer centric approach, the state-run telecom operator seeks to provide its customers with higher speed enabled 4G data offers.
A brief sketch of strategies for BSNL’s 4G Data Service launch
BSNL is working towards the installation of 4G base tower stations (BTS) in the existing base tower sites. Having already acquired a 20MHz liberalized BWA spectrum in 2500 MHz band, BSNL has soft launched its 4G services in Chandigarh. Now, it is preparing to launch commercial high-speed services in 14 circles. Previously the company had also invited bids from telecom equipment providers to add 31.02 million new users of its 3G/4G services.
For the rollout of 4G services, BSNL is currently working on two models, namely sharing and capex models. During 2016-17, BSNL has concrete plans to install 3700 Wi-fi hotspots. So far it has already installed 2526 Wi-Fi hotspots for providing wireless internet.

BSNL has 1259 cities under its 3G coverage and it has also enabled all its 2G customers to avail 3G services.

Broadband
In response to the increasing demand for data, BSNL has expanded its broadband services by increasing the minimum download speed to 512 Kbps. Already covering more than 1.69 lakh villages with broadband services; the operator has aims to reach a broadband subscription of 17.50 million by March, 2017.
BSNL keeps releasing lucrative offers to attract customers during 2016

In August, 2016, BSNL launched the national unlimited 3G mobile data plan priced at INR 1,099. The company also doubled the data usage limit in some of the existing plans.

As per a new offer, 3G Prepaid Data Special Tariff Voucher (Data STV) costing INR 561 will be having an extended validity from 1st September 2016. The STV will now come with a validity of 60 days as compared to the previous 30 days.

Earlier in Feb 2016, BSNL had launched ‘Voice 201’ that offered 24,000 seconds of free local/STD calls to any network.
